“HEALTH CARDS" IN FRANCE
The foundations of French preventive medicine have been strengthened by the introduction of a “ health card ” to be issued free ou the birth of every child on which will bo recorded its full medical history from infancy through childhood and adolescence to old ago. The “ health card ” is not compulsory, but in a circular issued by M. JUuarfc. Minister for Public Health, prefects are urged to do everything to encourage its use. The “ health card ” is divided into two sections. The first is concerned with the medical history of the holder and his parents. The second is concerned with the holder’s dental condition. All the particulars noted in the card will be confidential; not even the holder’s name will appear on it—only a number to facilitate identification in case of loss.
M. Rucart, in a statement to the Press, explained that the “ health card ” had become a necessity owing to the disappearance of the family doctor People now wont to specialists, and it was essential for the specialist to he able to identify—-in a physiological sense—bis patient. That was the purpose of the “ health card.”
