SEVEH-A-SIDE VARSITY A WIN The seven-a-side tournament which was postponed! from the previous Saturday was played at Tonga Park. The weather was perfect, but the ground was rather heavy after.ruin. Varsity A won through their Superior speed, but they, were hard pressed by Collegiate, who, in the second last round, drew with the winners. Many very close matches were seen during the afternoon, and the officials responsible for the smooth running of the matches are to be congratulated. The first match started shortly after 1.30 p.ni., and the six rounds were completed by 4.15 p.m. Dr B. Monheimer and Messrs A. C. Barnes, P. Patterson, and W. Alexander ably controlled the games. The following table shows how the various teams finished at the completion of the day’s play. Each played sis games, and those unaccounted for in the table were drawn
After the games, Mr A. C. Barnes presented the shields to the members of the winning team. JUNIOR COMPETITION. The junior seven-side tournament played at the Oval resulted in a win for Technical Old Boys. The competition was on the knock-out principle. Results:‘First Round.—T.C.O.B. A 1 v. WOMEN'S GAMES COMPETITION LEADERS BEATEN. The final games of the. first round were played on the Oval under good conditions. The competition leaders, Otago, found Kings just a shade too hot,- and lost their lead All games were well contested, though in the College v. Brighton match the former ' again' showed their' worth. Dunedin had a close call against Varsity B, and the A’s found Momona a much-im-proved side. KINGS v. OTAGO. These teams met on Oval No. 1, which was in good condition Otago attacked early and within three minutes from the start E. Blackwood found an opening to put Otago one up. Kings attacked strongly, but the Black-and-White defence was sound. Up-and-down play saw M. Fisher make a nice opening for A. Harley to find the net. Halftime: 1 ail. In the second spell it was very even going, first one and then the other attacking and spoiling good chances by missed passes and infringements Kings swept to the attack and H Harley scored 1 rather a lucky goal to give Kings a well-earned lead. Otago made repeated attempts to equalise, but the Kings defence was sound, and a hardfought game finished: Kings 2. Otago 1. DUNEDIN v. VARSITY B. Dunedlin found the Blues a muchimproved side, for whilst they had the better, of the play, the latter’s defence was good; Varsity opened their scoring account and 1 Dunedin were hardpressed at times. It was a good, even go all the way, Dunedin eventually winning by 3 goals to 2. COLLEGE v. BRIGHTON. College showed a welcome return to their best form to practically control the game in their match with Brighton’ For the greater part of the time they held a territorial advantage, and the Brighton backs were worried by the good combined 1 work of the College eleven. They fought hard from whistle to whistle, but College won by 7 goals to*o. VARSITY A v. MOMONA, Momona made it a good game; the forwards had their share in attacking movements, but found it. hard to penetrate the good Blue defence. The Varsity forwards made the most of their chances, and, though the Momona backs defended in great style, the Blues won a well-merited victory by 5 foals to '2. ■ B GRADE. Taieri 6, Otago 1.
