THEFT OF CLOTHING
WOMAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE [Per United Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, May 22. When the gas ran out on the morning after he had returned to his living rooms above his offices in New Plymouth after a few days’ absence at Kaponga, John Franklin, a draper of Kaponga and Whangarei, found that some shillings which he had left ip a drawer against such a contingency bad disappeared. He made a search of his premises and discovered that four £5 notes, three pairs of black trousers, some Underclothing, and other clothing had disappeared. This discovery led to Hilda Elizabeth Cresswell, a married woman, appearing at the New Plymouth Police Court today before Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M.. charged that on May 14 she by day broke and entered the dwelling of John Franklin and stole £2O in money, three pairs' of men’s trousers, men’s underclothing, and other .clothing of a total value of £26 10s. The accused admitted stealing the clothing, but denied having stolen the four £5 notes, and on the application of her counsel the charge so far as it related to the £2O in money was withdrawn. The accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
