LADY KING SCHOLARSHIP
RHODES SCHOLAR NAMED the Council of the Otago University has awarded the Lady King Scholarship to Dr W. E, Hanley, a Rhodes scholar who has just returned, to New Zealand. This scholarship was established in 1926 by the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, the encouragement of study in New Zealand in preventive work in regard to paediatrics and the well-being or mother and child in the ante-natal. intra-natal, and post-natal periods, and that of the child up to school age. The scholarship, which is for one year, and can be extended for one further year, carries a salary of which the present value is £6OO, having been increased to this amount for this year by a grant from the Government Research Council. Dr .Henley attended the Otago Medical School for three years. Ho was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and went to Oxford to complete his medical course. He will have his headquarters in Dunedin. The appointment is subject to the approval of a committee consisting of the president and medical adviser of the Plunket Society and the chairman of the Medical Research Committee.
