Rimutaka, Lyttelton, June 27, London. LONDON’S SHIPPING. During the week ended April 21, 904 vessels, representing 1,066,062 net register tons, used the Port of London. Ot these 500 vessels (870,400 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 404 vessels (195,662) net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included eight meat cargoes—four from Australia, one from New Zealand, and three from South America—comprising 214.000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 144.000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits, and sundries, TRADE DELEGATION TO LONDON. The Finnish trade delegation made an extensive tour of the Port of London recently. Visitors included Sir Henrik Ramsay, K.8.E., Ph.D., chairman of the delegation, M. Rolf 13. Berner and M. Ake Kihlman, vice-chair-men of the delegation, and other prominent Finnish business men. Sir Norman Vernon, Bart., chairman of the Anglo-Finnish section of the London Chamber of Commerce, and Lady Vernon, together with other members of the chamber, accompanied the delegation, which was received at tho head offices of the Port of London Authority by tho Rt. Hon. Lord Ritchie of Dundee, chairman. Tho party, accompanied by the Rt. Hon. Thomas Wiles, P.C., vice-chairman of the Port of London Authority, Captain Sir lon Hamilton Benn, Bart., C. 8., D. 5.0., T.D., Admiral Sir Alan Hotham, K.C.M.G., C. 8., and Mr A. Maclean, members of the Authority, then made an inspection of the wool, ivory, rubber, a* wine warehouses and vaults at the Loudon docks, and of Montague Meyer’s timber depot at the Millwall dock. The visitors then embarked in the s.s. St. Katherine, and proceeded down river for an inspection of the King George V. and Royal Albert docks and the Millenium Mills in the Royal Victoria dock. NEW BLUE STAR MOTOR SHIPS. TWO VESSELS NEARING COMPLETION. Two of the three large motor vessels similar to the Star and Melbourne Star ordered recently by tho Blue Star Line for its Australasian services are nearing completion and are expected to make their first voyages to New Zealand ports within a few months. _ They are the Wellington Star, which will sail front London on September 14, and the Auckland Star, which should leave Liverpool on October 7. Although no official announcement has been made by the company, it is believed that the name Auckland Star has been given to the ship which it was originally intended to name Fremantle Star. The Wellington Star is being built by Bunneister and Wain, ot Copenhagen, and the Auckland Star by HarJand and Wolff Ltd., which has also received the order for the third ship to be named Adelaide Star. Three smaller, single-screw ships—Columbia Star, Canadian Star, and Californian Starhave also been placed in commission’ recently by Burmeister and Wain. The Canadian Star arrived at Sydney on May 8 from Hobart on her maiden voyage, and sailed for Hull. London, and Liverpool via Torres Straits, Wyndham. and Suez. The Auckland Star and Wellington Star have a gross tonnage of more than 11,000, and will be driven by two sets of 10-cylinder Diesel engines giving them a service speed of more than 18 knots. Like the other Blue Star ships m the Australasian trade, the new vessels will have luxuriously appointed accommodation for 12 passengers in single and double berth staterooms, each of which has a bathroom attached. TEKOA REPORTS, The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a wireless message from the Tekoa, en route from Liverpool, reporting that she expects to reach Auckland to-morrow night. She will later complete discharge at Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, and is due hero about June 13. PORT SYDNEY REPORTS. The Port Line has received a wireless message from the Port Sydney, eu route from London in ballast, reporting that she expects to reach New Plymouth to-morrow night.
