THE ‘SPORTS SPECIAL

SOME FEATURES OF TO-MORROWS ISSUE

A judicious commingling of sport news and magazine features will make to-morrow night’s ‘ Sports Special ’ appetising reading. The sport of the day is very varied, with the second day of the South Canterbury races (covered with notes from our own racing specialist, “St. Clair”), second day of the Manawatu meeting, and opening day of the Waikato races; two exceedingly interesting Rugby encounters, in the Pirates-Taieri and Southern-Zingari matches; and full roster of Soccer, hockey, basketball, cycling, and harrier events to be chronicled. The big news story of the magazine section— ‘ Propaganda,’ by Michael Grey—holds special interest at the moment, when an international contest in this insidious medium is engendering more bitterness than actual war. The short story this week is Leonora M’Pheeter’s charming tale, ‘ Clever Girl ’ the ‘ Instruments of Science ’ item is the second on the function and functioning of the microscope; the ‘ Five Minute Mysteries ’ series is continued with ‘Missing Button’; Charlie Whitcombe’s golf article will be on the difference between wood and iron, ‘ Cultivating the Squeeze Shot ’; the veteran cricket chronicler “ Nestor ” writes on ‘ Batsmen Bowled by Fear.’ The ‘ Sports Special ’ will be on sale from 7 p.fn. to-morrow.
