EIGHT FIREMEN IN HOSPITAL
SIXTEEN PERSONS INJURED [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND March 6. Sixteen people: were injured, including several firemen, eight being taken to hospital in - ambulances, while eight people, including . five .firemen, were treated on the 'spot. Ambulance workers were summoned from all parts of the city and a station was established near the fire, with a hospital doctor in attendance. None of the hospital patients is in serious condition to-day. Those admitted to hospital were: Robert Matthew Wigmore, fireman, severe burns to the hands; Eric Bright, fireman, burns to hands; James O’Sullivan, motor driver, vice-commodore of the Victoria Cruising Club, shock; Constable Douglas George Kilgour, 21, single, slight shock. Kilgour was discharged to-day. He heroically rescued O’Sullivan from the Victoria Cruising Club
building while hie and other club members were valiantly endeavouring to save the club records. The club officials were tidying up the building after a picnic when the fire was discovered. Learning that a man was in danger, Kilgour, without waiting for the firerpen to douse his clothing, rushed across the burning ramp, entered the first floor of the burning building, and dragged O’Sullivan out of the committee room.
Kilgour formerly resided at Palmerston North. , _ A remarkable feature of the fire was the amazing flow of traffic.
