RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB Owing to the absence of several members at the N.R.A. meeting and the snipers’ course at Trentham, the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club has suspended the championship matches for a fortnight. On Saturday the remaining members were drafted into two squads of 13 men each, one team representing the president and the other the dputypresident to fire a match of 10 shots with two optional sighters at 500yds and 600yds, tho 11 highest scores in each‘to count. The president’s team won by 1 point, although at the conclusion or the shoot at the 500yds range the deputy-president’s team was leading by 5 points. The highest score off the rifle was secured by E. Adams, with a possible at 500yds and 48 at 600yds—98 out of a possible of 100. Other good scores were 49’s at 500yds by R. K. Johnston and W. Burt, a 48 at 600 by W. Baker—an excellent performance under somewhat difficult conditions of wind , and light—and 47 at 600 scored by J, Porteous. Tho details of the teams’ match were as follows :

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB Members of the Dunedin Defence Rifle Club were guests of the Waikouaiti Defence Rifle Club on the Waikbuaiti range on Saturday afternoon. Some of the older members., hs(| met in matches - ,iix th'e dayj. of’' the * Flag Swamp (later the Goodwood) Rifle Club. The visit succeeded in adding to the knowledge and experience of riflemen in both clubs. A match consisting of seven shots and two optional sighters was fired at 300yds and 500yds. Refreshments were provided on the range, and a very enjoyable afternoon was experienced. Shooting conditions were good, although the light became rather dull towards the finish. The highest score at 300yds was 34 by R. Leslie, jun., A. J. S. Cowie, and O. G. IVliller, and at 500yds 33T by W. T. G. Facer, A, J. S. Cowie, A. T. Parker, R. Leslie, jun., G. H. Smith, and J. L. Benfell. The highest score over the two ranges was 67, by R. Leslie, jun., and A. J. S. Cowie. The match resulted in a win for Dunedin by 12 points. Following are the scores:— —Dunedin.—
