OAMARU MARKETS, Harvesting of wheat has begun, and indications are that crops will turn out better than was anticipated. Due to the exceptional rainfall last year, the moisture content is high. The market for Garton oats is easier by Id a bushel compared with last week’s prices. Business is quiet in the seeds market, but there is a fair inquiry for new season’s certified ryegrass. A fair quantity of cocksfoot has been offering, and lines have been, purchased in Canterbury at 4d to 6d a lb, depending upon the quality of the seed. The weather throughout most of the North Otago district during the past week has been fine, but windy, and farmers in some narts would welcome a good fall of rain.
, PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs R. B. Meek (Oamaru) have returned, from Blenheim, where Mr Meek attended the annual conference of the Athletic, Cycling, and Axemen’s Union. At a meeting of the St. Stephen’s Church Vestry, Hampden, Mr F. Thomson was appointed secretary and treasurer, . Mr A. Spears having resigned from the position. Formerly a member of the Oamaru branch or the Union Bank of Australia, Mr M. Hendy, who has been on the Greyraouth staff of the bank, has received notice of his transfer to Waimate. GENERAL. "Hampden was again the scene of the Oamaru North School picnic on Thursday, when' pupils and their parents forgathered in large numbers. The weather was favourable, and during the day most of the picnickers participated in the sports. Arrangements were made for a garden party next month at the last meet-
ing of the Wesley Guild, and a tribute to the fine work of Mrs Ferrier, who will ho leaving Oamaru shortly, was paid by Mrs Markland. At the meeting of the Airodale-Rosc-bery Ladies’ Guild and P.W.M.U. Miss L.
