FINE AND WARM The following weather forecast issued at noon by the' Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— A belt of relatively high pressure still covers the South Island, while Hie last of the recent series of weak cyclones is centred near Cape Maria van Dicman. Forecast; Light to fresh northerly winds. Weather fine and warm, but later cloud increasing from the west. Seas slight. ID EA tl 'CON DIT 10 NS, Again conditions were ideal this morning, with bright sunshine pouring down from a cloudless sky from an early hour, making the atmosphere most pleasant. At times, there was a tendency to closeness,. though generally the heat was clear and invigorating! „ after the chilling winds of the past few weeks. There was little wind—only a light westerly. Peak thermometer registration at the Gardens at 1 p.m, from 9 a.m. was 71.2 deg, and the minimum 67.8 deg, as compared with the recordings of 70 and 47.4c1eg yesterday over 24 hours from the same time. Barometric pressure was steady in the city at 29.8 in at 1 p.m.. when there seemed no likelihood of a change taking place later. AT OTHER CENTRES.
Light breezes and blue skies were tho rule over the South Island this morning, indicating . that the return to more settled conditions was general. In southern areas in particular the change was more noticeable. Instead of fresh south-westerly breezes, light northerlies were the rule ,at the Nuggets and Bluff, with north-easterlies in the centra? portion of the east coast, and south-easterlies around Cape Campbell. Temperatures throughout the island have been more congenial over the past few days, the peak being at Wellington _ (69deg), and the least recording being at the Nuggets and southwards (55deg). Barometric pressure was at a more normal summer level than for some time, the greatest pressure being at Christchurch and Cape Campbell—3o.3in—and the minimum (29.93 in) at the Nuggets and Greymouth. Seas generally were smooth, but moderate at Greymouth. The following informatiofa is abridged from the report issued by the Meteorological Office at Wellington at 9 this morning:— Weather. Temp. deg.
