Base Metals Open Firmer

Inquiry Persists for Government Loans

Buyers were slightly more numerous on the Dunedin investment market this morning, and although values did not show much appreciation, the healthier support accorded was noticeable. Loans again came in for good attention from buyers, most of the 4 per cents, gaining ground, but vendors remained off.

New York recovered further ground yesterday, industrials moving to above the 141. mark to the best level since the sharp drop recorded on January 20. Railroads supported the advance on a moderate turnover.

Base metals opened firmer yesterday, all issues advancing. Tin gained 37s 6d, standard copper moved to above the £42 mark again, while lead and spelter shared in the movement.
