EVENING ATHLETIC MEET

BEST OF THE SEASON FAST TIMES RECORDED Under, pleasant leather conditions, the weekly track and field meeting of the Otago Centre of. the New Zealand Anlateur Athletic Association was held at the Caledonian Ground last night, the. fields, being of satisfactory dimensions and the racing keen, with many of the championship candidates now beginning to strike form. In both junior events back-markers put up good performances, the Otago 220yds champion, C. M'Gregor, running strongly to win the furlong convincingly in 23 3-osee, while the consistent Celtic United middle-distance runner, H. F. Coombs, had an easy win in the mile from the syds mark in. 4min 47sec. The open -100yds handicap- was fought out by two of the l6ng-markers, R. M'Levie (Civil Service) winning off 7Jyds m 10 2-ssec, and from the 3] yds mark the Otago rep. footballer. AV. A. Bla.ck, was close up in third place. Winning the 440yds hurdles handicap from scratch. J. L. \V.
