FINE AT FIRST CYCLONE OFF AUCKLAND PENINSULA The following weather forecast was issued at noon, by . the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— An anti-cyclone covers the South; Island; but a cyclone of moderate intensity is centred a short distance wesli of the Auckland Peninsula. Pressure has fallen over Tasmania. Forecast:; Light to . moderate north-easterly to northerly winds, later tending northwesterly, and freshening./ Weather fine at first, but later clouding over in the west. Temperatures moderate. Seas slight. STILL SUNNY. Though to-day temperatures failed to reach the maximum recorded on Saturday, conditions were in, every way comparable- There was bright sunshin« and the atmosphere was warm, despite a cooling north-easterly breeze.. Overhead conditions were ideal. Barometric pressure was steady at 29.7 in at 1 p.m, in the city, , while at the Gardens the respective maximum-minimum thermometer registrations from 9 a.'mv were 64 and 57deg, as, compared with the 24-hour readings of 59.1 deg and 41deg yesterday, aiid 72.2 deg and 47.7 deg bn Saturday. OTHER CENTRES. Blue skies and light winds were the rule from Bluff to Farewell Spit this morning, but farther to the north overcast conditions prevailed, while winds had a tendency to become stronger. Northerly to north-easterly breezes were experienced from the Nuggets t« Christchurch, with south-easteriies-ovei the area extending to Wellington. No rain was falling over, the South Island this morning at 9 o’clock. Temperatures were at a moderate level, th« peak registration being 67deg at : Timaru, and the least 50deg at the. Nuggets and Puysegur Point. Seas in southern areas were smooth, but a< Wellington were rough. Barometric pressure reached its greatest at Christchurch and Oamaru (30.16 in), and was least at Auckland.
