PICNIC REUNION

SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS MEET GATHERING AT CLINTON Friendships formed on tho African veldt were renewed yesterday when veterans from the South African Wai held a picnic reunion on the Caledonian Grounds at Clinton. They took with them their “ bully beef and biscuits,” and with hot water provided, yarned away of those old) days, ilearly four decades back, when the close association of camp life on the veldt threw them so intimately together. Nearly 160 men turned up at Clinton, cars arriving from all quarters of the compass within the Otago and Southland areas. On February 12 next South African men from Timaru and Oamaru are go ing to the Ashburton racecourse, where they will meet the men from Canterbury in reunion. Incidentally, a car load of men from Dunedin will also make the journey.
