SHORTAGE OF VEGETABLES

POSITION IN NEW SOUTH WALES CONSIGNMENTS FROM NEW ZEALAND Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, January 28. (Received January 28, at II a.m.) A consignment of cabbages, peas, and beans, which was brought from Now Zealand in the Awatea, was sold at the markets yesterday. Prices for cabbages reached 21s a dozen and choice peas and beans realised 24s a bushel. If the local scarcity continues it is likely that further larger importations will be made. The rationing of egg supplies in New South Wales by 50 per cent, has become necessary because of the recent heat wave and bush fires in which between 200,000 and 300,000 fowls # died.
