LOVELY EFFECTS WITH NEW COLOURED GLASS

Glass for the table or intended for flower containers is offered in many new and lovely forms now, says a London correspondent. Many of the flower containers are arranged on narrow stands, so that the flowers are brought into greater prominence. The most useful ones are those which are designed to show certain types of flowers to the greatest advantage. Some of them are shaped like the old-fashioned curved glass “ baskets,” others are fan-shaped witli recesses for the stems all the way round them These vases are intended for the mantelpiece, or for ledges, where a circular arrangement of flowers would not. be suitable.

Glass “ shells ” arc lovely for choice blooms, of which a few only tire used, while large vases, rather in the shape of deep vegetable dishes, hold big bouquets of mixed blooms. There are also many glass flower containers which are almost flat, like plates with extra wide edges, and small, deep centres. These are for posies of short-stemm*' flowers.

Lovely effects can be obtained bv using coloured glass for flower vases Green glass “ plates ” with unite flowers can look charming, ,/hi'o deep purple glass may be chosen to held mixed pink and mauve blooms. Table glass is most attractive, too. and some of the more expensive cutglass looks exquisite in brilliant coh urs of emerald, amethyst, ruby, and soft shades of dusty rose or topaz. There are also lovely deep ours to be seen, the most popular of which appears to be deep reddish ourp'e Dessert services, fruit dishes, and grape-fruit bowls are made of this glass, while wine glasses and goblets

It had a widely spreading skirt, scattered with little cerise velvet bows, which match tho shoulder straps that hold up the tiny, tight-fitting bodice. Lamb is one of the best sellers of today, and it appears in many guises, some of which arc hardly recognisable. Coats of “ beaver lamb ” are particularly good purchases. Tin's is lamb sheared and shaded in heaver and nutria colours to make it almost indistinguishable from these furs. Additional advantages are that it is proofed to withstand lain, and is very hard wearing. One in nutria colour is full swagger in shape and had a stand-up collar. MUSQUASH SHADES. Musquash is as versatile as lamb and appears in many shades, owing_ to the different types of the fur which is used. This is another good purchase that can bo made advantageously at the moment. since the price of musquash lias dropped four times since last January. A coat in blended musquash .back which was shown appears in the rich, warm brown of mink, to which it has quite a strong resemblance. Silvery musquash flank is liked by many’ women on account of its flattering shade. Though not quite as hard wearing as the musquash hack, this fur gives good service. Squirrel is another favourite, and owing to clever modern working it now rivals in smartness nnv other fur.
