BEAUTY SECRETS
HOW MANNEQUINS KEEP FIT How do mannequins always seem to keep fit and preserve their beauty in spite of bad weather and long hours 7 ■So many business girls have asked me how I do it that at last I have consented to divulge my secret (nays a writer in an exchange). First I want to say 1 follow my own beauty course. Every day, by hook or by crook, 1 reserve 10 minutes for this—seldom more and never less. Briefly, my day begins with a light sponge down with warm water to which five drops of ammonia have been added. Then for a few minutes I undergo a thorough nibbing from head to toe, followed up by a general powdering. After that I spend two minutes in deepbreathing exercises. Then I dross. For my face 1 never use anything except tepid water, with little or ho soap. After that 1 bathe my eyes for one minute with plain cold water and dry thoroughly on small squares of old silk—a use for ancient undies, by t|m way. And every other day 1 massage a little olive oil into my face and skin, and apply the merest fraction into the scalp. A FRESH EGG. To keep my hands, arms, and elbows in condition, I give them a last-minute nib at night with a freshly-cut lemon, then follow up with a swab of old silk, lightly moistened in pure olive oil. I find the lemon counteracts any darkening effect of the skin due to the oil. while the latter prevents the too drastic effect of the acid fruit juice. Once a week in winter and twice weekly during summer I give my face the luxury of a home-prepared pack. This I make by beating up one fre.sh egg, adding six to eight drops of lemon juice, and-one drop ol simple tincture
of benzoin. After cleansing the face in tepid water and drying on a soft, curly towel, 1 apply my prepared face pack with a wad of cotton wool, leave it to dry thoroughly, then wash off with tepid water and a few drops of witch hazel. The effect is almost magical, and the rejuvenation is lasting. REAL REST. Lastly, every mannequin knows how to relax. Many business girls and women occupied with household tasks overlook the importance of perfect relaxation. The more you can relax the less you will need artificial beauty aids. In my own case, I am seldom able to relax for more than two or three minutes. But I relax often, and that makes up for the quarter of an hour rest yi between tasks. 1 just lie down flat, so as*to relax all the muscles, I do not attempt to read or talk, for these both bring the brain and nerve centres into play. I simply close my eyes, let the bodv go jimp and inert, ami—-forget everything.
