Miss A. M. Aitken has returned to town for the home science conference, and is staying at Studholmo House; afterwards she will be the guest of Mrs Alexander Harris, Alton Avenue.

An impromptu afternoon tea party was held on Saturday afternoon in the Otago Women’s Club, when the older members of St. Hilda’s Old Girls’ Association were given the opportunity of greeting Sister Catherine, for many years connected with St. Hilda’s, who is now on the staff of the Sisters’ School in Adelaide.

Miss Betty Boss, accompanied by her brother, Mr Kenneth Ross, left on Monday for Sydney, where they will join the Strathaird for Scotland, to enter as students in the University of Aberdeen. In Sydney they will be the guests for a few days of Mrs James Hegarty.

In honour of Mrs William Sargood, of New South Wales, Mrs F. M. Oldham gave a luncheon party yesterday in the Otago Women’s Club, and to-day was hostess at an afternoon tea party at her home in Cargill street.

Miss Hilary Hudson was a hostess on Saturday morning at a tea party given at her home in London street in honour of Miss Betty Boss. The other guests were Misses Jean Paterson, Docile Jones, Hilary Bunnerstrum, Judith Gallaway, Betty Batham, and Dorothy Kidson.

Mr and Mrs Robert Walls entertained some 60 friends on Saturday evening in honour of the coming of age of their daughter Ngaire. Wilson Hall was attractively decorated for the occasion in shades of green and lemon, to tone with an appropriately inscribed birthday cake. Mrs Walls wore a becoming frock of navy georgette, with an all-over design of tulips, and Mrs John Walls, who assisted her, chose a midnight blue velvet gown, relieved with white. The guest of the evening, who was presented by Mr A. Sharp, the M.C., with a gold key, made a charming picture in a full-skirted gown of mermaid blue chiffon, trimmed at the corsage with massed flowers in pastel shades.

Sir Percy and Lady Sargood gave a o o’clock party on Monday afternoon in honour of their guests, Mr and Mrs William Sargood, of New South Wales. Miniature hydrangeas in pots were used to decorate the hall, while dainty Iceland poppies were the attractive decoration in the dining room, where refreshments were served. The hostess wore a gown of Parma violet morocain and Mrs William Sargood wore a frock of purple crepe de chine with a self-brocaded pattern, with a chic black hat with touches of purple.
