IMPROVEMENT INDICATED The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— Though still low, pressure is showing a rising tendency over New Zealand, and an anti-cyclone is now located oyer the Western Tasman Sea, and a tropical cyclone in the Fiji Island group. Forecast: Light to fresh southernly winds. Weather changeable at first with scattered rains, and in places possibly local thunder and hail, but improving. Temperatures cool, but rising. Seas moderate to rather rough, but decreasing, LOCAL CONDITIONS. Dunedin is being given little respite from rain. Last night, after a chilly evening, light showers began, and this morning brought no improvement. In fact, towards 10 o’clock the rain became heavier and steadier. Overhead conditions were not promising—there was a heavy cloudbank that did not seem likely to clear’ this afternoon. There was one favourable aspect, however, as barometric pressure was rising at I p.m. at 29.10 in, indicating more congenial weather to follow. Further, th« cold wind prevalent last night had dropped to a light south-westerly breeze this morning. At the Garden* at 1 o’clock this afternoon the peak thermometer registration from 9 this morning was ol.odeg, and the minimum 46deg, as compared with the, 24-hour recordings from the same time yesterday of 62deg and 44.5 deg. Rainfall yesterday was recorded at the Gardens at .17in. OTHER CENTRES. The following information is abridged from the report issued by the Meteorological Office at 9 this morning:— _ ..
