COLD AND CHANGEABLE Tho following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— There has been only a slight rise of pressure _ over _ New Zealand, several secondaries having followed yesterday’s depression. The anti-cyclone over South-eastern Australia has. however,, intensified. Forecast: Moderate to strong southerly winds, decreasing later; weather cold and changeable, with occasional _ rain and possibly hail and thunder, improving _ later; seas slight to moderate, but rising, LOCAL CONDITIONS. An overcast sky and intermittent showers to-day followed the bright conditions which prevailed for most of yesterday afternoon. Early this morning the weather was mild, but rain appeared at about 10.30, and although tha fall was not heavy depressing conditions ruled at 1 o’clock. At this time tha respective maximum-minimum thermometer registrations at the Gardens from 9 a.m. were oOdeg and 47deg, as compared with the 24-hour recordings from tho same time yesterday of 57deg and 44.5 deg. Barometric pressure in tha city at 1 p.m. was steady at 29.45 in. OTHER CENTRES. The following information is abridged from the report issued by the Meteorological Office at 9 this morning:— Temp* Weather. deg. Wellington— Overcast; gentle north-westerly, breeze. Rain, .44in. 58 Overcast and hazy; calm.
