FAT CATTLE AGAIN DEARER

LAMBS APPRECIATE SLIGHTLY PORKERS. IN GOOD DEMAND DOUBLE MARKET AT BURNSIDE There was a double sale of stock at Burnside to-day, with the result that only the fat pig and lamb sales had been completed at the time of going to press, while the fat cattle sale was in progress. There was a fair yarding of fat cattle, but it did not have a big representation of heavy grades, the bulk being of medium descriptions, with a lesser proportion of cows and heifers than at the last sale. The market opened with quite fair competition, with a slight appreciation in values on the late average rates. During progress there was a firming tendency, particularly for heavy bullocks. Mr Alex. Murray, of Taieri, had topped the market at the time of going to press, his consignment bringing to £22 17s 6d. Mr John Murray, also of Taieri, had some fine bullocks forward, these bringing the next highest price., A consignment from Air J. M'Bryde, of Temuka, had not been sold), but were expected to bring a high price. There were about 3,000 fat lambs forward, but the yarding showed only moderate quality, there being a good number of inferior and light sorts included. Prices were from Is to Is 6d dearer than at this time last year. * There were 69 fat pigs forward and 48 stores. Included among the former were very few baconers. Porkers were in keen demand, and there was a sharp rise in price for this section. To-day’s prices ranged from £3 to £3 17s, or about 18s a head dearer than last week. The average was about lOd lb. Baconers were selling at about late rates.
