SMASH AND GRAB

THEFTS FROM JEWELLERY SHOP WINDOW FIRM'S REPEATED LOSSES [Pee United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, December 21. Watches and rings of a value not yet ascertained were stolen by a thief or thieves who smashed the shop window of J. B. Lauchlan Ltd., watchmakers and jewellers, Willis street, at about 3 a.m. The window was recessed from the footpath, and the thief would not readily be visible. It is believed that the smashing was likely done while a water cart or other heavy vehicle was passing, as it was not heard by the policemen in the vicinity. Lauchlan conducts other jewellery businesses in the city and has been unfortunate in that his premises _ have repeatedly suffered through this kind of theft over the last two years.
