RUMANIAN JEWS

TAXED TO FINANCE EXPULSION TRADING LICENSES WITHDRAWN Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 19. The ‘ News Chronicle’s ’ Bucharest correspondent states that the Government is subsidising a fund of £1,000,000, mostly from a tax on Jewish incomes, in order to finance Jewish colonisation in Palestine aifd elsewhere, giving each migrant £2O, a free passport and free transport to any Mediterranean port. Another £1,000,000 will be devoted to buying Jewish estates. .Voluntary migrants are estimated to number 20,000 a year, but the Government wants the number increased to 30,000. Thousands of trading licenses have been withdrawn from Jews in order to reduce their commercial influence. Apparently 25,000 Rumanian Jews will be deprived of a means of livelihood early in 1939.
