WEATHER FORECAST

GENERAL RAIN The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— A rather deep depression is crossing the central portion of the Dominion, while another is approaching the southern extremity. Pressure has risen sharply over Eastern Australia. Forecast: Strong southerly winds probable by to-morrow; dull and in places misty, with general rain. Some heavy falls and thunder possible. Temperatures becoming colder, with hail on the south coast. Seas light, but rising. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Following a dull afternoon, with spasmodic sunshine, last evening was fine and mild until shortly after 9 o’clock, when light showers fell in • Dunedin. About 10 o’clock came a return to the heavy showers experienced for some time, and early this morning rain was still falling, the registration at the Gardens to 9 a.m. over the preceding 24 hours being .07in. Later in the morning there came a marked improvement. Conditions were dull until shortly before noon, when bright sunshine made an appearance to dispel the mist that had been overhanging the city previously, while the light cloudbank cleared away. Temperatures were warm at 1 o’clock, when conditions might be said to be ideal in most respects. There was bright sunshine, with only a light breeze from the southwest. At this time the respective maxi-mum-minimum thermometer registrar tions at the Gardens from 9 a.m, were 66.5 and 48.5 deg, as compared with the 24-hour recordings from the same time of 59.2 and 46deg. Barometric pressure in the city at 1 p.m. was steady at 29.45 in. --
