FREEZING SEASON OPENS
1,320 LAMBS DEALT WITH The South Otago freezing works opened for a short period before the holidays on Thursday, when some 1,320 lambs of excellent quality were dealt with. A line of 105 killed out at an average of 37jlb, another line of 50 had an average of 37.81 b, while a third line of 72 killed out at an average of 37.221 b. It is intended to continue till December 22, and indications are that there ‘will be sufficient lambs to keep the'l7( butchers fully 1 employed. Yesterday morning the killing for the Meat Board’s fat lamb competition took place. The judge was Mr M‘Gregor, of the Meat Board’s grading staff, and the 54 entries of three lambs each were of outstanding quality. The results were:—S. W. Moffat (Te Houka) 1, A. C. Broad (Waiwera South) 2, .D. M'Kenzie (Waiwera South) 3. In addition to the above, the following were included in the South Otago district quota of 45 lambs for the Dominion competition to be judged at Smithfield :—Townley Bros., Stirling; W. Taylor, Ashley Downs; James Twaddle, Benhar; C. N. Lowery, Clarksville; R. Clark, Clarksville; A. Carruthers, Taumata; James Howden, Gore-Waikaka R.D.; James Leslie, Glenomaru; James Russell, Warepa; D. Burnett, Milton.
