Atr Stanley Bruce arrived, but since the Queen Mary was almost 12 hours late, the arrangements for meeting him had’to be modified. Mr Bruce will remain in New York until late on Saturday owing to the loss of a day here, but he expects to leave Washington on December 26, according to schedule.' In an interview with the Australian Associated Press Mr Bruce stressed that he had no mission to initiate trade a freemen t discussions, inform the United States Government with regard to British policy, make important addresses in America, make any specific investigations, or otherwise carry out any official mission. “ Naturally I will listen to everything I can hear about the agreement situation and about the American attitude to European affairs, or anything else that is possibly of interest to Australia, and when 1 report to my Government I will indicate what I have learned. Perhaps it will be possible later to estimate for the Austra. iian public what the American viewpoint is with regard to this or that international question. Maybe I shall know better after what my visit to Washington brings up.”
