j For Waikouaiti and Oamaru. Sovereign Lady will be nominated for 1 the Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings, . where she will have D. O’Connor as her pilot if she fulfils these. Catalogue to Race. Catalogue is an unexpected nomination for the Manawatu Cup, in which Conveyor is also engaged. May Go To Australia. There is a possibility of Arctic King going to Randwick in the autumn to contest the Sydney Cup. A Newcomer. J. Walsh is working a five-year-old gelding by Guy Parish from Imperial Logan. Flash Guy is now a member of J. (B. Scott’s Gore team.— ‘ Southland News.’ For Manawatu. The three-year-old Disdain now looks like being the *•'winter who will accompany The Buzzer to Ellerslie, as neither Oratory nor Laughing Lass has been entered for the later days at Auckland, but Disdain has been nominated for both the final days. Oratory and Laughing Lass are each entered for the Manawatu Meeting. Aspirant’s Debut. Aspirant has been nominated for the novice events at the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting, and her debut will bo awaited with interest as the half-sister to Grand Mogul has the reputation of being something extra special. Ashburton Trotting Cup. Following are the nominations for the Ashburton Trotting Cup, £9OO, 4.26: Lucky Jack, Parisienne. Indianapolis, Pot Luck, King’s Play, Ironside, Gallant Knight, Harold Logan, Plutus, and Bonny Azure. Ten Wins In Succession. A pacer named Black Hope has won 10 races in succession at South Australian meetings this season, the first four at the Adelaide Show. Strangely enough, he has not been required to go faster than 2.18, a rate he made last season. Sire of Catalogue. Lord Quex, sire of the Melbourne Cup winner Catalogue, and a long line of winners since he jpined the Flexmere Stud some years agoi nears his 20 years in a most remarkable manner. The Lemberg horse is said to be as full of vitality as he was half a dozen years ago. Manawatu Cup Field. Following are the entries for the Manawatu Cup, £7OO, —Amigo, Wild Chase, Argentic, Ned Cuttle, Aussie Ra, Corroboree, Quadroon, Kena, Master Cyklom The Bigot, Sunee, Hunting Cat, Big Dock, Play On, Lady Montana, Happy Landing, Tidewaiter King Key, Seigmund, Peerless, Galteemore, Brazen King, Conveyer, Old Surrey, Catalogue A Question of Bits. The Queensland Turf Club has removed the ban imposed by its stipendiary stewards on all except ordinary bits, and a trainer has been informed that the special type which brought tlie matter to a head may be used in future. The committee has saved the face of its officials by announcing that trainers may now make application to the stewards for permission to use other than ordinary bits. Plans for Coronation. The only.- three-year-old engaged in the Auckland Cup is Coronation, who is to contest the middle-distance hack events at the Wood Ville Meeting, and much will depend on his showing there whether he will contest the two-mile event at Ellerslie on Boxing Day (says the Auckland ‘Herald’). By Limond from Jewel of Asia, Coronation has been given every opportunity to develop, and his connections have hopes of him proving a stayer. M'Glusky. M'Glusky, who is being worked at Gore by owner-trainer N. S. Lawlor, showed promising form in his first season of racing when he won a saddle race at Invercargill and was in the money on three other occasions. He was then four years old, and in the following season he won one race in sixstarts. Last season he had three outings without meeting with any success, and the seven-year-old son of Rey de Ore and a Logan Pointer mare is now seven years old. M'Glusky has been nominated for the Gort Trotting Club’s meeting this month. ‘ Southland News.’ Ajax Resting. Ajax, the best horse in Australia, is enjoying a rest from racing. When he returns to the tracks he will be set for the King’s Cup and the weight-for-age events leading up to it. The handicapper will find a ready-made topweight for the Cup, but Ajax has to be right to complete his big programme. The Cup is to be run at the V.11.C autumn fixture, and it will make that meeting one of the biggest drawcards of the season. Every owner is keen to win the King’s Cup, but with Ajax in the way they will probably have to wait another year, as he would take a lot of beating in any handicap race where there is a maximum topweight of 9.5. Won Last Year. Betty Drusus and Suncup, who have been nominated for the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting, were successful at last year’s fixture. Trotters Matched. The Greymouth Trotting Club has made arrangements for a match race, probably over a mile and a-half, betwecVi two of the outstanding unhoppled trotters iu the Dominion, Peggotty and Sea Gift, The race will take place on the first day of the club's midsummer meeting on January 0.

December 31, January 2.—Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club. January 2.—Waikouaiti Racing Club. January 2. Wyndham Racing Club. January 2, 3.—Stratford Racing Club. January 2, 3.—Marlon Jockey Club. January 3. —Oamaru Jockey Club. January 3, 4. —Southland Racing Club.

TROTTING. December 10. —Waikato T.O. December 26.—Ashburton T.O. December 26.—Wairarapa T.O. December 26, 27.—Westport T.O. December 31.—Winton T.O. January 2, 3.—Canterbury park T.O. January 5, 6.—Grey mouth T.C.

A Good Stayer. Bourbon, who won the V.11.C. Handicap, one and three-quarter miles, at the recent Melbourne Gup Meeting, and who is claimed to have been unlucky not to have beaten Catalogue in the Cup, is the best stayer got by Tippler. Though bred on lines that suggest he would get a good percentage of stayers, 'Jnppler will be remembered mainly for hip. brilliant sprinters. The reason for Bourbon’s superior stamina is undoubtedly that ho is out of about the best staying-bred mare that was ever mated with Tippler. This mare was Spearfoot, for whom Mr Hunter White paid 400 gs as a yearling. Spearfoot is by Spoarfelt from the Martian mare Battle Scene.

Three-year-old Test. Although Aldershot proved in the' Derby his superiority over all other three-year-olds opposed to him, it cannot be said that ho has been thoroughly tested by the best of his age. In tho Champion Stakes at Ashburton, however, he will be given his proper test. In the New Zealand Derby, which he won so decisively, Aldershot did not have tho opposition of Shadowson or Bedrock, who won the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. In this race Bedrock fairly outstayed Aldershot, but while the latter may have improved a good deal, Bedrock has not raci.l since. Shadowson has won two races, and is a grand pacer, while another in the field is Nelson Eddy, who has shown his ability on both clay and grass tracks. The Champion Stakes will provide the first meeting between what are regarded as the best four three-year-olds of the year. The race will provide a proper test of three-yea-old supremacy.—Christchurch ‘ Press.’ Gore Trotting Meeting. Handicaps for the Gore Trotting Club’s Meeting will be declared on Saturday, and acceptances close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14. Canterbury Representatives. Canterbury stables are represented in the nominations for the Gore Cup by Bill 8., Harold Guy, and Norhara Lady. Cattle Flat Meeting. The Cattle Flat Racing Club has issued its programme for its annual pou-totalisator meeting on December 27. The Cattle Flat Cup is worth £25, while during the day £ll7 will be distributed in stake money. Nominations close on Tuesday, December 13. Southern Trip. Sovereign Lady will he nominated for the Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings, where she will have D. O’Connor as her pilot if she fulfils her engagements. M. B. Edwards has arranged to race Ponty, Cocksure, and Miss Bluff at the Dunedin, Waikouaiti, and Oamaru meetings. A. Messervy will go south to do the riding.—Christchurch ‘ Star-Sun.’ Paper Slipper for Auckland. Paper Slipper has raced only once at Auckland, in last year’s Railway Handicap. He missed a place, and was so sore after the race that he could not start again at the meeting. His weight was 9.J, the same as he has been allotted this year. The Paper Money horse has always reserved his best form for Riccarton and Wingatui. He won a handicap at Trenthara as a two-year-old, and an open sprint with 9.3 at Awapunl, but these constitute his oniy successes in the North Island. At Wingatui he won the Electric Handicap, the Guineas, the Publicans’ Handicap, and the Hazlett Cup, but Riccarton lias been his favourite track. His victories there include the Irwcll Handicap 9.3, Autumn Nursery 9.5, Stewards’ Handicap 8.5, Middle Park Plate 10.0, Members’ Handicap 8.12, Craven Plate 9.1, and Stewards’ Handicap 8.6. His South Island record would undoubtedly have been even more impressive had he not been of the same age as Wild Chase. A Record-breaker. Free Holmes lias made many records with horses he has trained, ridden, or driven, but he also has the distinction of having handled the pacemaker when at least four records in New Zealand were broken. When trotting was held at Lancaster Park, Holmes rode a galloper to pace the old champion Monte Carlo, and when Worthy Queen established her mile record he also drove thd pacemaker. Much of the honour for the records broken by Worthy Queen and Lawn Derby must go to the credit of the veteran, who rated them quarter by quarter with the greatest' precision. “ I have had a little experience with trotters and pacers,” said Holmes, when accepting a present from the Metropolitan Trotting Club yesterday, “ and any little ability that I have will always be at the disposal of any who wish to make or break records.”
