NATIONAL SERVICE

DEBATE IN HOUSE OF COMMONS HINT OF PROPERTY REGISTRATION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 6. In the House of Commons debate on national service, Mr W. S. Cluse (Lab.) said that if the people were told that Britain was preparing defences against almost certain attack within perhaps a short period there would be an outburst of voluntary effort. Sir John Anderson, in reply to the debate, hinted that the registration of property, as well as personnel, may be necessary in future. He stressed that there was nothing in the scheme suggesting industrial conscription, and added that Sir Auckland Geddes, who was director of recruiting and Minister of National Service during the war, proffered assistance, which was gladly accepted. The debate, by arrangement with the Opposition, was adjourned sine die.
