DHIZZLIHG RAIN OH EAST COAST The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay-: Pressure is still high to the east of New Zealand, while an extensive depression covers the Tasman Sea. Forecast ; East to north winds, light to moderate mainly, but fresh in _ some exposed positions. Drizzling rain on. parts of the East Coast, otherwise mainly cloudy, but with isolated rain. Moderate temperatures. Seas rather rough, with an easterly swell. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Shortly before 10 o’clock last night light rain began to fall once again in Dunedin,\ and increased in heaviness and intensity towards midnight, though temperatures were mild. This morning there was a persistent light drizzle to make Conditions unpleasant, particularly since it was driven by a fresh north-easterly breeze. At I p.m. the sky was still heavily overcast, and it did not seem likely that there would be much improvement during the afternoon, though at times during the morning the fall had almost ceased. Temperatures, as last night, were not low, but maintained a moderate level. At the Gardens at 1 p.m. the peak thermometer registration from 9 a.m. was 53deg, and the minimum 50.5 deg, as compared with tho 24-hour recordings from the same time yesterday of 56deg and 47.5 deg. Rainfall registered at the Gardens over the latter period was .34in. Barometric pressure was falling at 30in in the city at 1 o’clock this afternoon. OTHER CENTRES. The following information is abridged from tho report issued by the Meteorological Office at 9 this morning:— Weather. deg. Temp, Wellington— Overcast; hazy; light southeasterly breeze. Rain, .04in. 59 Ch ristchurch— Overcast; steady rain; gentle south-westerly. Rain, 1.25 in. 50 Timaru— Overcast; slight south-westerly. 53 Oamaru— Overcast; drizzling rain; moderate north-easterly. 50 (Bluff— Blue sky; slight easterly. 60 Nuggets— Overcast; fresh easterly.
