RECORD CHRISTMAS TRADE EXPECTED MR SAVAGE GRATIFIED [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 29. The promising prospects for a record Christmas trade this year were referred to by tho Prime Minister, Mr Savage, in an interview. “ I look upon the official reports of increased preliminary Christmas and summer holiday purchases as gratifying evidence of the prosperity of the people.” said Mr Savage. “ 1 know of nothing more encouraging than the ability of people to spend freely on the distribution of happiness. It is quite true that we have our difficulties and problems, but it 'is also a fact that the people of New Zealand to-day are probably in a better position than in any other country in the world to secure Ynletido happiness. The real merriment of Christmas is the ability of the people as a whole to secure Christmas cheer. I am delighted with the official reports as to good business and record prospects throughout the Dominion.”
