WEATHER FORECAST

INTERMITTENT RAIN The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Half moon Bay:— Pressure is high to the north-east of New Zealand, and has risen over southeastern Australia. A rather deep depression is advancing from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Fresh-south to southeast winds. Weather unsettled, with intermittent rain, but improving later. Temperatures cold. Seas moderate but rising. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Few Dunedin citizens who awoke to find bright sunshine pouring down on the city this morning expected that it was the forerunner of a deluge similar to that experienced over the early part of the week. Bright, warm sunshine caused temperatures to rise to a high level over the early part of the morning, making conditions the most pleasant for some time. After the marked improvement yesterday, no doubt it was anticipated that the “ summery ” weather was about to return for a while. However, this promise was belied about 11.15, when light showers began to fall, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. Then, shortly after noon, the fall increased in intensity, and before long the streets were deluged. By 1 p.m. there was little change. However, it seemed that the fall was altogther too heavy to last, and some improvement—if such it could be called—was likely during the afternoon. ■ Barometric: pressure in the city at this time was falling at 29. Sin, while at the Gardena from 9 a.m. the respective maximumminimum thermometer registrations were 62.1 and 53.5 deg, as compared with the 24-hour recordings of 63.3 and 52deg yesterday from the same, time. There was a slight south-westerly breeze this morning. OTHER CENTRES.
