ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last evening, Air Ik L. Ritchie presiding. Others present wore: Messrs P. Findlay, A. D. Sutherland, W. J. Hell, G. T. Dennis, F. Sunderland, A. Ellis, A. G. Sherrill, J. G. Lanrenson, A. J. Allen, J). O’Connell, and A. C. Laing (secretary). Correspondence from the town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) referring to the right-of-way leading from the steps at the Roslyn tram to Delta street, stated that the request for the area to be put down in grass would be granted. The Town Clerk also advised that the portion of Highgate between City road and Ross street would be resealed; that the kerbing and channelling would be continued along Fifield street, to the junction of Highgate; and that the intersection of Delta and Gamma streets would be tar sealed. ROSLYN TRAM SERVICE. The Chairman reported the conference with the Tramways Committee of flic City Council concerning the proposal to replace the Roslyn tram service by a bus service for certain hours during the day as a trial for a few months. The association had adopted the following resolution, which had been forwarded fo the City Council: — “ That as wo represent the wlnSle of tho district and believe the majority of tho people prefer trams to buses we could not agree to a permanent bus service. We realise that, the council is making a substantial loss on the trams, so we will not obstruct the proposal to give a combined partial service by buses and trams a trial for a period of six months, this, on condition that at the end of the period we will again be invited to meet the Tramways Committee of the council to discuss the matter further.” In reply to the resolution the council stated that it had decided to give the proposal put forward by the tramways manager a trial for six months, and at the end of that period it would be considered further by the council and the association’s views would be obtained. REQUESTS TO COUNCIL. It was decided to ask tho council to make every endeavour to complete the widening of the Kaikorai Valley road. The opinion was expressed that, if satis-

factory arrangments could not be made privately for the taking over of the last property, other steps should be taken. It was decided to ask that the carriageway of the bridge over the road in Fraser’s" Gully be repaired, the decking at present being very .faulty. It was suggested that the planted reserve opposite the Punga Croquet Grounds in Ross street be replanted in a more attractive setting. Attention was drawn to a number of high hedges in the district, especially at intersections, which, according to law, had to he lowered.—lt was decided to ask -tlie council to look into the matter.
