TRADE RELATIONS

CANADA AND DICTATOR COUNTRIES DEMANDS FOR SEVERANCE LIKELY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MONTREAL, November 24. (Received November 25, at 2 p.m.) A despatch by the Ottawa correspondent of the ‘ Gazette ’ states that there is every likelihood that demands that Canada should sever trade relations with Germany, .Japan and Italy will be raised during the forthcoming session of Parliament. It adds that businessmen are opposed to the extension of trading facilities to the dictator countries as provided under the English, American, and Canadian treaties. Canada has “ favoured nation ” agreements with Germany, Japan, and Italy, which automatically grant them all the concessions given to the United States. The textile and rubber industries have been particularly hard hit by Japanese competition, through the ridiculously low cost of production in Japan, and it is contended that this handicap has now increased through the new concessions.
