A report from St. Lucia, British West Indies, states that a series of avalanches which caused whole mountains to split up and poured a blanket of wet clay 20ft deep over large areas probably killed hundreds of persons. Already 75 bodies have been recovered. Continuous slides, moving with great rapidity, poured down over villages before the population could escape.
