WEATHER FORECAST

FAIR AND MILD The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmopn Bay:— An anti-cyclone is centred to . the north-east of the Dominion. Conditions are disturbed in the Tasman Sea area, and pressure is relatively low over south-eastern Australia. Forecast Light northerly winds prevailing, and freshening in the south. Weather fair and mild, but becoming unsettled in the west and south. Seas slight to moderate. LOCAL CONDITIONS. After a fine and pleasant afternoon, last night was particularly mild in Dunedin, giving promise of good weather to-day. This was fulfilled, for bright sunshine from an early hour caused temperatures to rise to a congenial level. The sky was clear for the most part, while only a light southerly breze disturbed the atmosphere. In all ways it was the most nearly ideal day for some time. Barometric pressure was steady in the city at 29.75 in at 1 p.m., while the peak thermometer recording at the Gardens at this time from 9 a.m. was 60-Sdeg, and the minimum 52.9 deg, as compared with 60.6 and 46.5 deg yesterday over a period, of 24 hours from the same time. OTHER CENTRES. The following information is abridged from the report issued by the Meteorological Office at 9 this morning:— Temp, Weathtr, deg. Wellington— Cloudy; slight northerly breeze. - 61) Christchurch— 1 , Overcasthazy; slight east-north-easterly. 57 Timaru— Blue sky and detached clouds; light south-westerly. 61 Oamaru— Overcast; slight south-easterly. 51 BluffOvercast; slight northerly. 53 Nuggets— Cloudy and hazy; light northerly.
