EIGHT SHOCKS RECORDED

HAWKE’S BAY AND WANGANUI AREAS CKE SEVERE JOLT The seismographs at the Dominion Observatory yesterday recorded eight earthquakes with Dominion origin. The tally started at 5.53 a.in. with a slight shake in Hawke’s Bay, about 140 miles from Wellington. At 1.23 p.m. one cf the most severe for some time was recorded, originating about ICO miles away in the vicinity of Wanganui. An undulating tremor was followed by a severe jolt, and the disturbance was felt over a wide area. Its force was six on the Rossiforel scale. Six other shocks were recorded in connection with this earthquake, at 3.47, 8.5, 0.30, 11.5, 11.18, and 11.55 p.m.’ All were very light except that at 11.5, wjhich was quite strong, and was felt at Wellington.
