[Faou Oun Balcdutha Correspondent.] MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the Balclutha Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Judgment by default was given in the following cases:—John Ridgwell (Balclutha) v. Arthur Stanton (Kaihiku), claim £4 8s 3d, costs 10s; CJutha Finance Company v. W. H. B. Aitkeu (Kaihiku), claim £2O ss, costs £1 12s. D. .11. Ash and Son (Balclutha) proceeded against William Miller (Balclutha) for £1 10s 9d on a judgment summons. —Debtor wrote offering to pay Os a month.—Mr S. D. Macdonald, for plaintiffs, said defendant evidently had a personal grievance against Mr Ash and was not going to pay until he got an apology. He had recently bought a dog for which he paid £lO. —Order made for payment forthwith, in default three days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended for a week. —Traffic Regulations.—

R. S. Hunter, Ravensbourne, was charged with failing to keep his car as close as practicable to the left side of the road on Lovell’s Flat-Kaitangata highway.—Constable Watts (Kaitangata) prosecuted, and said defendant had collided with another car, damage to the extent of about £2O being done. In a statement to the Ravensbourne police defendant admitted guilt.—Convicted and fined 20s, with 16s costs. William Miller, Balclutha, was charged with failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right on November 2. Constable D. Buchanan gave evidence as to taking a statement from defendant, who said he could not say whether he had kept a look-out or not. A heavily-laden motor lorry coming along James street had hit him amidships, and his car had been damaged beyond repair, while he had been off work as a result of the accident. —Convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs. Lindsay Dairy West, Balclutha, for having no heavy traffic license, was convicted and fined 20s, with 10s costs. T. H. Whatson, Homer Camp for exceeding the speed limit in Clyde street, Balclutha, was convicted and fined 30s, with 10s costs. For having no warrants of fitness in respect to cars J. D. Ritchie (Stirling) was fined 10s, with 10s costs; Thos. Rcndall (Inch Clutha) was fined 10s, with 12s costs; and T. A. Hawley (Waitepeka) was convicted and ordered to pay 19s costs. For allowing his car to stand in Clyde street for over 20 minutes Ernest Butts (Balclutha) was convicted and 'fined 10s, with 10s costs, Inspector Gray stating that defendant bad been warned several times. For allowing a cow to wander at large in Argyle street R. J. Hollows was convicted and fined 10s, with 10s costs. SOUTH OTAGO AERO CLUB. Mr R. R. Grigor presided over a meeting of the executive of the South Otago Aero Club on Tuesday night. Reference was made to the death of Mr D. T. Fleming, and a motion! of condolence with the family was carried in silence. Several accounts were passed for payment, and correspondence of a routine nature dealt with. It was reported that a few more pupils were offering for training purposes, and it was left to the president to make an endeavour to obtain the services of machines from the Otago Club to visit Balclutha at week-ends as previously for the purpose of carrying out training operations. THE WEATHER. The weather continues bold and wintry, with heavy rain showers falling at frequent intervals. Since Friday the rainfall recorded in Balclutha up till yesterday morning totalled 1.45 in. The fall on Monday totalled I.2in, this being the heaviest recorded on any one day for a long time. The strong" winds experienced during the week-end did a fair amount of damage in gardens, growing crops being flattened out in many places. On one Inch Clutha farm turnip thinning had just been completed, and as a result of the gale the remaining crop, covering several acres, was blown out of the ground, the loss being a serious one. CLUTHA SHOW. Entries for Clutha Show to-morrow total 853, the chief features being light horses and competitions and baking, these sections showing large increases on last year. Cattle, sheep, and draught horses aro also well represented, although entries are not quite as good as those of last year.
