Commenting on the advice of the Minister of Public Works regarding releasing men employed on public works, the Minister of Labour, Mr Armstrong, makes the following statement:—> Any worker who is in receipt of sustenance or employed under schemes 5 and 13 will be considered as voluntarily unemployed if he refuses, without good reason,, private employment carrying the wages and conditions prescribed by (1) the current award or industrial agreement; (2) the current standard adopted by any State department: (3) any scheme administered by this department; including scheme No. 4F, farm training; (4) the Agricultural Workers Act, 1936, in the case of farm employees. A similar position arises if a worker is dismissed by an employer as the result of (1) failing to yield a reasonable return of work, (2) improper behaviour or practice. Mr Armstrong suggests to employers that when a worker refuses work offered the facts should be referred to the nearest certifying officer.
