NEW FLYING TROPHY

MEMORIAL TO SQUADRON-LEADER MGREGOR Advice has been received by the Otago Aero Club that a prominent citizen of Palmerston North has presented to the Middle Districts Aero Club a handsome trophy to be known as the “ M’Gregor Memorial Trophy,” to perpetuate the memory of a man who did much to place New Zealand on the aviation map of the world, the late Squadron-leader M. C. M'Gregor. The trophy is to bo competed for between the members of the various aero clubs, and the competition will be conducted along the lines of the standard required for commercial air pilots An aspect of flying in which the late Squadron-leader M‘Gregor was particularly interested—that concerning the safety of passenger transport—will also be incorporated in the competition. It is fitting that the man who did so much to establish aero clubs in New Zealand in their early days and was also largely responsible for the establishment of commercial air services in the Dominion should be honoured. It is considered that this competition will cover a wide field of aviation, and will bring the winner under the direct notice of the commercial air lines. The first contest for the trophy is expected to be held during February, and the Otago Aero Club will endeavour to send a representative to compete.
