SUMMER SHOW

ADDITIONAL AWARDS QUALITY OF STOCK Though the catalogue of entries for the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Summer Show at Tahuna Park this year was not as heavy as on many occasions in the past, any numerical deficiencies have been handsomely offset by the quality of the stock. The large crowd that inspected the show in ideal weather to-day saw plenty to interest, apart altogether from the sideshow attractions, which are the most varied in years. The greatest decrease in the entries is among the sheep sections, but the display of horses, both heavy and light, is an excellent one, while the cattle exhibits, if rather small, and representative of but a few owners, are most creditable. The reason for the smaller catalogue can be chiefly pointed to as labour conditions on the farm, and certainly not to r an unwillingness to support the society. There are many prominent breeders not represented on this occasion, the lateness of the season and the consequent rush to commence and finish operations quickly preventing them from sparing the time to send the cream of their stock to the show. There was unfortunately no activity in “ sideshow_ alley ” either yesterday afternoon or in the evening owing to the unfavourable weather conditions, but to-day the showmen were compensated amply for their disappointment with warm weather and the attendance of a big section of the Dunedin public to see the thousand and one mysteries contained in their tents, ranging from freaks that have never before been exhibited in Dunedin to entertainments that have skil| and monetary reward as the basis. This canvas carnival will be continued this evening until a late hour.
