JEWISH REFUGEES. “ Tliorc is no suggestion of mass immigration of refugees. The case of each intending migrant is handled individually on application to the Minister of Customs,” said Mr Savage to-day in commenting on the report that 175 Austrian Jewish refugees are passing through Canada on their way to Australia and New Zealand. Mr Savage said naturally their sympathy went out to those thousands of people suffering oppression in various European countries, but practical sympathy was host shown by ensuring that those among them who wished to seek refuge in New Zealand would at least he certain of a place in industry. Sympathy without a 1 practical background could easily be dangerous. He indicated that plans for production must have a bearing on any policy of migration. “ When wo bring people from overseas we must have work waiting for them. It is senseless to have them struggling for jobs against those who are already here.”—Wellington Press Association. •JEWISH REFUGEE CHILDREN. LONDON, November 22.—The first batch of 500 Jewish refugee children from Germany is expected in England within a fortnight.
