FIRMER SUPPORT
SELECTED ISSUES ADVANCE SHIPPING STOCKS MARKED UP Appreciably firmer support for selected issues marked the investment trend this morning, and several shares made good way. Business was again comparatively slack, howeverj dwindling to three reported transactions. Bank of New Zealands gained further ground, reported business at hi Is 6d bringing on an unanswered buyer at £2 Is 3d. Nationals closed steady. Meat preserving issues had a better inquiry at late rates, but industrials were slow to move. Woolworths (N.Z.) reflected better interest, but the market closed at buyers’ 19s fid, while the absence of vendors checked movements m N.Z. Breweries. Macduffs Ltd. were passed. . Prominent among Commonwealth industrial leaders were P. and O. Deferreds, buyers marking the scrip up 3s to £1 10s, but even at that substantial advance holders did not respond. Union Steams were sought at the higher price of £1 6s, while Howard Smiths attracted attention. Other issues were quiet with little marked movement, apart from a Is gain by Carltons. A hesitant tone again prevailed in the Australian mining section. Souths ■were not sought, while Lyells and Morgans were ■uncertain to easier. Norths and Zincs held late rates.
