LAWRENCE NOTES
' [From Odb Correspondent.] FARMERS’ UNION. There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Lawrence branch of the Farmers’ Union. Mr G. W. Stuart (president) welcomed Mr C. W. Worthington, the newly-appointed stock inspector to the district. The secretary reported that 10 entries had been received _ from members for the pasture competitions. The Chairman presented Messrs R. and W. Bulfin with last year’s certificate for the pasture competitions (first and second for old and young pasture). The question of payable guaranteed prices for wool was introduced by Mr G. W. Stuart, and after the matter had been fully discussed by several speakers the following motion was carried:—“That the Lawrence branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union is absolutely opposed to guaranteed prices for wool.” One dissentient vote was recorded. _ Mr F. Robertson asked what was being done regarding dry rot in turnips. Mr R. S. Thompson explained that the Dunedin Executive was at present looking into the matter. i On behalf of the local branch of the R.S.A., Mr H. Winter invited members to attend an evening to bo held in the club room on Saturday.,
