Strawberry plants at this stage are showing flower, and will need attention by applying a mulch ( of half-rotted material" The mowings from the lawn will make an excellent substitute. Before placing on the mulch it ys essential to give the plants a good _ watering with liquid manure. This will greatly assist the young berries to swell, Tho variety which was mentioned some time ago in these notes (Royal Sovereign) is now at this stage showing splendid bunches of flowers, and the flowers are at least twice the size of the ordinary varieties that we have been cultivating. Large flowers, of course, mean largefruit. Notes on this particular variety as to flavour, crop, etc., will follow at a later date. . Keep the surface open around all fruit trees, especially bush fruit. A mulching around the trees and bushes will be found to be very beneficial in helping to keep the surface roots moist.
