Twenty-five thousand Indiana in Tanganyika have cabled the Government of India and the Indian Congress urging representations to Britain regarding their grave position in the event of Tanganyika going to Germany. They point out that Indians have invested millions in business and industrial enterprises, which would be lost. . They also fear that German racial discrimination would render their position untenable. “ PEOPLE NOT CATTLE TO BE BOUGHT AND SOLD ” CALCUTTA, October 20. (Received October 21, at 12.15 p.m.) Chandra Bose, president of the Indian National Congress, declared that the people of Tanganyika were not cattle to be bought and sold at will by the Great Powers. It might be possible for Britain to ignore the will of Tanganyika and effect a deal with Germany, but Indians would never forgive Imperialist Powers who played with Indian life and property. He added: “ A day of reckoning will come when Indians will be masters of their own land.” OPPOSED TO CONCESSIONS FARMERS IN KENYA. NAIROBI. October 20. (Received October 21, at 12.15 p.m.) After a speech by Lord Francis Scott denouncing as traitorous those consiclering placing the natives, the Indians, and British subjects under German rule, in view of Germany’s record with her own minorities in Kenya, the Farmers’ Convention pledged support against Colonial concessions. MR PIROW GOES ABROAD WILL POSSIBLY SEE HITLEIR. CAPE TOWN. October 20. (Received October 21. at 2 p.m.) Mr Pirow (Minister of Defence) has left for London. It is understood that he is discussing with Portugal South African co-operation in the defence of East Africa. He is authorised to investigate all matters concerning South Africa, including colonies. He may see Herr Hitler.
