JOCKEY’S THEFT
LENIENCY EXTENDED AUCKLAND, October 21. Michael Stewart, licensed jockey, ''ct! 23, was admitted to two years’ ■rohation by Mr Justice .Callan in the Supreme Court this morning, having been found guilty of theft earlier in the session. Sentencing Stewart, His Honour said ho thought it proper in the circumstances to admit prisoner to probation. The fact that the jury had found Stewart not guilty of breaking and entering, and recommended leniency, indicated that they bad adduced the belief that he himself held—that Stewart would not have committed the offence had he not been under the influence of liquor.
