—Ministerial.— The Hon. F. Jones, Postmaster-Gene-ral and Minister of Defence, will leave for Wellington by the second express to-morrow morning. Dr Stuart Moore was a passenger to Wellington to-day. He will return to Dunedin on the 29th inst. Mr Arnold W. Johnson, general manager in Australia of the Orient Steam Navigation Company, who was appointed to that position on the retirement of Mr D. L. Dowdell at the end_ of last year, will arrive in New Zealand” with Mrs Johnson by the Orcades, which is due at Auckland on Friday nest. Mr and Mrs Johnson will spend a few weeks in the Dominion. The resignation of Miss G. S. M'Millan from the teaching staff of the Otago Girls’ High School was accepted at yesterday’s meeting of the High Schools’ Board of Governors. In an accompanying letter, the principal of the school (Miss King) stated that Miss M'Millan intended going abroad for a trip, after which she was to be It was decided to forward a letter of congratulatibn to Miss M'Millan. A ‘ Gazette ’ notice announces the appointment of Commander A. B. Fanshawe, R.N., as honorary aide de camp on the staff of the Governor-General (Viscount Galway). „ Reference to the death of Mr D. T. Fleming, who was a member of the Otago High Schools’ Board of Governors for a period of 24 years, was made by the president (Mr W. R. Brngh) at the monthly meeting yesterday. _ A resolution of sympathy was carried. Quite a large number of the running staff assembled at the car depot on Wednesday to bid farewell to two members who were retiring after _ having completed a long term of service. The tramways manager (Mr W. H. Mackenzie) occupied the chair, and spoke eulogistically of the guests—Messrs W. Harfirnd and E. Hancock—both ’of whom had served well and faithfully for 27 years and 11 years respectively in the department. In wishing them every happiness and good health in their retirement, Mr Mackenzie asked them to accept from the staff a suit case and tea service, and also handed each a well-filled wallet. Mr A. H. Cameron, president of the Tramways Union, also addressed the gathering, and stated how pleased he was to be associated with his comrades in paying tribute to the guests, who, by their unfailing courtesy, had won esteem and endeared themselves to the staff and the public alike. He wished them every happiness and prosperity. Messrs Harland and Hancock, 'in reply, thanked the manager and the staff for the great kindness extended to them and also for the valuable gifts which, they stated, would always remind them of their pleasant association with the tramways and the many friendships they had made. Mr N. A. Wilson (Wellington), Mr and Mrs S. R. Thomas (Christchurch), are staying at Wain’s Hotel. Registrations at the Carlton Hotel include Mr and Mrs Afton. (Hawke’s Bay), T. E. James, Mr A. V. Hewitt, Mr J. E. Staunton (Wellington), Mr A. M. Franklin, Mr N. M'Ausland (Christchurch). Staying at the Excelsior Hotel are Mr J. H. Parker (Wellington), Mr R. C. Hamilton (Christchurch), Mr Simmons (Ranfurly), Mr Mitchell (Ranfurly), Mr Chorlton (Roxburgh).,-., : Guests at the City Hotel include Mr; :R. Steele (Auckland). Mr J. Nelson, Mr W.
