GENERALLY FINE SCATTERED RAINS IN SOUTHERN COASTAL AREAS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the 'south*--ern districts—Dunedin, Port .Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay ; Pressure is still i rather high over the north Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand, while a series of shallow westerly depressions is' crossing the south Tasman Sea and the South Island, Forecast: Moderate to strong * winds, between south-west and north-west; scattered rains’ in the ranges - and southern coastal areas,, but otherwise fair to fine. Temperatures moderate. Seas rather rough to ■ rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere alight ta moderate. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Muggy heat was the rule yesterday, but just after midnight a short but,, heavy, shower of rain fell in Dunedin, the recording of the ’ fall at the Gardens at 9 a.m. being .llin. This had the effect of clearing the atmosphere, for later this morning, though bright! sunshine ’and warm temperatures were prevalent, the heat was not as oppressive as yesterday, and conditions were not as fatiguing. There was, in addition, a light west-south-westerly breeze* while barometric ressure at. 1 o’clock this afternoon was rising .at,29.Bin,- in-i dicating that the afternoon -would ’ be pleasant, and the evening fine -and mild. The respective maximum and minimum thermometer registrations at the Gardens at this time from 9 this morning were not as high as those of yesterday over a period! of 24. hours from the same time, the respective recordings being 61-ldeg and 55.5deg tand 72.6 deg and 43.4 deg. • OTHER CENTRES.
