CONTRACT BRIDGE
WIN FOR DUNEDIN TEAM A contract bridge match was recently played at Christchurch between teams representing the Crockford’s Club, of Christchurch, and the Otago Bridge Club, of Dunedin. For several years now these two clubs have played two matches each year, and latterly a cup
has been donated for competition between the two. On this occasion there were 12 players in each team, and a very close and enjoyable game resulted in a win for the-Dunedin team by the small margin of 380 points. The match was played on the duplicate system, and consisted of three sessions of 30 hands each. At the end of the first session the Christchurch team had established a substantial lead of 1,900 points, but the Dunedin team made a good recovery in the second session, and actually finished 1,100
points ahead on the first two The final session was very close; and in an exciting finish the Dunedin team managed to hold its lead sufficiently; ,to win. ■ The two teams were very( evenly matched, as is evident from th» fact that, although over 60,000 points were scored during the match, only 1180 . points separated the two at the finish, i The following comprised the Dunedin 1 team: Mesdames Black, Cameron, i Ellis, Goodwin, and Shostrum, Messrs 1 Allan, Halliday, Mills, Penrose, Picker* i ing, Thomson, and Wilson.
