DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB

MONTHLY SOCIAL GATHERING The monthly social of the Dunedin Burns Club attracted a large audience to the Concert Chamber last evening, and the diversified programme met with considerable enthusiasm. Mr Arthur Macdonald, the president of the club, occupied the chair, and announced that the “ Hallowe’en on Gretna Green ” festival would be held on October 29 and not November 5, us previously stated. A bagpipe selection by Piper Crighton opened the concert, and this was followed by the opening ode, 1 Star o’ Robbie Burns.’ Selections were rendered- by the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band, following which Mr C. H. Henderson gave a trombone solo. The remainder of the iprqgramme was as follows; —Recitation. Miss lona Livingstone ; cornet solo, Mr 11. Flintoff; song, Miss June Holmes; duet (trombone and cornet). Messrs C. F. Henderson and R. Flintoff; song, Mr Raymond Wentworth; national dance, Miss Pat Atkinson’s Reel Party; songs— Misses Bertha Rawlinson. Vera Goodchild, Nancy Pike, June Donaldson. Doris Darracott; verse speaking choir by the pupils of the Dunedin Academy; monologue, Miss Joy Ferens; elocution—Misses Winnie Dowie ,and Pat Strachan. Miss Mavis M'Donald was at the piano, while some of the accompaniments were played by Miss Eunice Steadman.

An enjoyable dance rounded off the evening’s entertainment, Mr M. Campbell performing the duties of M.C.
